When starting a new save, the player will be asked to name their pet and customize its appearance on the character creation screen. The player can choose the pet's body color and customize the color of its details and its backpack by choosing their favorite color.
The pet's colors can be changed later by using a Mirror purchased at Cid's Store for 3,000
.
Tasks
The pet will follow the player everywhere they go, including inside the dungeons. It has four inventory slots to carry items (eight slots with Pet Backpack card) and will pick up any dropped items if the player's inventory is full and it has an inventory slot available. Additionally, the pet can be sent to deposit all items in its inventory into the shipping box with the Pet Delivery card or teleport the player to the Teleportation Stone if they have one placed.
When on the farm, the pet can be instructed to dig tiles for planting and water crops. The number of tiles the player can queue starts at 9 and can be increased to 49 with Pet Training cards and up to 100 with cards and equipment. Daisy offers a short tutorial on the farming mechanic during Your Little Companion.
The pet also has a variety of combat skills that are unlocked by eating cards:
- With Healing Bond the pet can heal some of the player's lost Health Points every six seconds.
- Water Bolt allows the pet to attack any monsters it sees with a bouncing water ball, with the bolt's damage based on the player's Attack Power.
- Life Shield grants the pet the ability to save the player from fatal damage once per day.
The effect of all pet cards can be further increased by wearing jewelry.
