Fishing is an optional activity and a mini game in Everafter Falls. Fish obtained by fishing can be sold, used in cooking or crafting recipes or for completing jobs, or donated to the Museum or Town Aquarium collections. Currently all fish can spawn in any location at any time of the day during any season.
Most bodies of water in the game, except for those in Pixie Guardian's Cave and Sacred Tree areas, can be fished in.
Mechanic
To fish, the player can use one of four Fishing Rods in order to cast their line into the water by holding the action button near fish silhouettes in any body of water. If the line lands close enough to the fish, it will begin to swim towards the line, biting it after a short period of time. To catch a fish, the player must tap the action button once the fish bites. (There will be both audio and visual queues for this.)
Once the fish is on the line, a small mini game will start, pausing the in-game time until it is concluded. The base mini game is set up with two reels spinning in circles while a hook hovers above. When the player taps the the action button, it will stop the outermost reel first, then proceed inward with each press of the action button. The reels each have wedges taken out of them, and the gaps in the reels need to be lined up vertically below the hook in order to catch the fish an individual reel corresponds to. Once all reels have stopped moving, the the hook will fall directly downward. The hook will pass through any gaps it can and will catch all fish on all reels if it lands in the innermost circle. If the hook does not land in the center, it will only catch the fish the reel corresponds to.
The player can add mods to their fishing rod to modify the minigame, such as make the gaps wider, slow the spin rate, add additional reels, increase cast distance, and more.
Minigame drops
A fish or other items that can appear on one of the reels are randomly chosen every time the minigame starts. The number of items the player will see is based on the number of reels after the fishing mods are applied. They can be one of the following:
- A fish, including dragonfly nymphs, tadpoles, or seaweed, with the chance to get a specific fish based on its rarity
- A shell (chance based on the location the player is fishing at, with 1-3% for most locations), with the chance to get a specific shell based on its rarity
Elf Stone (6.67%) if Spell Reversal Potion is active
Memory Stick (5.56%) if Missing Files is active
Wooden Key (1.25%)
Old Treasure Chest (1%)
Fine Treasure Chest (0.2%)
Grand Treasure Chest (0.1%)
Organic Paper Fragment (0.2%)
Blank Organic Card (0.05%)
The player's Luck stat slightly increases their chance of getting an item from a collection they are missing three or less items in.
Disabling the minigame
The fishing minigame is optional and may be turned off via the Settings menu. If the player disables the fishing minigame, they simply need to cast their line towards the fish and press the action button once it bites. However, only a single item will be caught that way instead of the chance for multiple catches; additionally, fishing with the minigame disabled will only ever yield one of the following items:
- A fish, including dragonfly nymphs, tadpoles, or seaweed (94.34%)
- A key (4.72%)
- A treasure chest (00.94%)
- The player will never get any other items otherwise obtainable with the minigame on:
- No shells will ever be caught.
- No Organic Paper Fragments or Blank Organic Cards that have an extremely rare chance to appear on one of the reels in the minigame.
- No quest items: Elf Stone during Spell Reversal Potion or Memory Stick during Missing Files.
Tools
Fishing rods are the tools used primarily for fishing, but they can also be used to catch critters, harvest crops or mushrooms, and grab other items. Unlike axes or pickaxes, fishing rods cannot be upgraded and have to be crafted individually. The better a fishing rod is, the more mod slots it has and the further the distance it can be cast at is.

Fishing mods
Fishing mods are special items that can be attached to fishing rods to grant them additional bonuses or other effects. Most fishing mods affect the minigame and have no effect if the minigame is off. The mods are reusable and can be attached to or removed from a fishing rod by examining that road in the inventory. Some mods are unique; others can be attached to the same rod in multiplies. Better rods have more mod slots.
Most mods can be purchased at the Fishing Store, with the exception of the Red Fishing Mod that is hidden in one of the sections of the map. A basic fishing mod can be received for free for completing Fishing for a Fun Guy.

Fish food
In addition to catching the fish that spawned naturally, the player can throw fish food into a body of water to summon more catchable fish. Fish food is crafted in the menu using caterpillars and disappears once it is thrown in water. The more expensive the food is, the more fish it attracts.
Fish food can be thrown in any water body in the game except for those in Pixie Guardian's Cave and Sacred Tree areas.
