Fruit trees are plants that can be grown from saplings at the player's farm to produce a variety of fruit. Harvested fruit can be used for cooking or processing, donated to the Museum, or sold for coins. Generally, fruit trees can be planted and will grow during any season, but will only produce fruit during their designated seasons and will be dormant during their inactive seasons. Fruit trees planted inside a Greenhouse will ignore seasonal changes.
Basics
This section covers the basics of tree planting and care.
Sapling sources
Most fruit tree saplings are available for sale at Freya's. Most saplings have a random chance to appear for purchase all year round, with the exception of rare Star Fruit and Totonut saplings that have a small chance to be sold during summer and spring respectively.
Several types of saplings can be exchanged for Prize Keys or randomly awarded for handing in pink pigeons to Pip. Unique Zorpian Tree sapling can only be purchased in the Landing Zone after completing Cedric's Rocket.
All saplings can be purchased in the Plant Catalogue that becomes available in late autumn of Year 2.
Growing trees
Tree saplings can be planted outside on the farm or inside any Greenhouse during any time of the year, and will start actively growing regardless of the current season. In order for a sapling to grow, its eight surrounding squares need to be empty of other trees; these empty squares can overlap with the empty squares of another tree or sapling. Inside the Greenhouse, trees can be planted along the walls.
Trees require no watering or other care and will grow to maturity automatically. Once fully grown, trees will start producing fruit during their active season (or all year round if they are planted in a Greenhouse). Ripe fruits do not need to be harvested immediately: a tree can have up to several fruits on it at once depending on the tree type, and new fruit will continue ripening as long as there is space on the tree.
Just like regular trees, fully mature fruit trees can be shaken for a small chance to get a critter.
Tree saplings can be removed by long pressing the pickup button with their tile selected. Once grown past the sapling stage, trees can be cut down with an Axe. Cut trees drop Wood or White Wood depending on their type (Zorpian and Wurple trees are the only two species that drop White Wood); the quantity of wood dropped depends on the growth stage. Fully grown trees leave behind a stump that can be chopped or left for mushrooms to spawn on, with White Wood stumps having a chance to grow rare Pixie Wing Shrooms.

Wild trees
Some mature fruit trees can be found on the map outside the player's farm; these trees will fruit during their active season as usual and can be harvested normally. Some trees are located inside gated areas that require a key to open, others are easily accessible.
Wild fruit trees do not regrow if cut down.
- Accessible from the start:
- Mulberry trees in the Aquarium Plaza and the southeastern section in town.
- Palm Trees on the beaches and on the sandy patch in the center of the moat farm.
- Gated (but often reachable with a fishing rod with enough distance mods):
- Avocado tree in the northeastern section of the town.
- Orange tree in the southwestern section.
- Two Star Fruit trees near the Tree of Seasons.
- Wurple tree in the northwestern section near the exit to the plaza.
- Orb Trees in two community gates: in the southeastern and northwestern sections.
- Totonut in Cid's backyard; this tree is locked behind Grass Cutting and not a community gate.
- Inaccessible on foot but can be harvested with a fishing rod with enough distance mods or a Yummyberry Juice:
- Cherry tree in Freya's garden above her store is reachable with an Epic Fishing Rod with the Red Fishing Mod attached.
- Totonut tree at the western edge of the northwestern section, above the waterfall.
- Another Totonut tree in this section is on the isolated island across the beach and the river, south of the waterfall; far away but reachable with an Epic Fishing Rod with the Red Fishing Mod attached.
- Wurple tree above the Landing Zone and to the left of Dog's Tree House.
- Palm trees above the northern beach and across the water from the western beach.
