Trees are plants that do not yield fruit but can be cut to get Wood or tapped to get valuable saps or resins for further processing. Trees spawn in the wild randomly and can also be planted by the player.
Growing trees
Tree seeds are commonly obtained by cutting fully mature trees (50% chance to drop a seed) or by cutting grass with a sword (1 in 65 chance or 1.5%), with the seeds being the following from most common to rarest:
Tree saplings can be obtained by planting the seeds or picked up when they spawn in the wild. A tree seed or a sapling can then be planted in untilled soil on the player's farm, inside a Greenhouse, or most other map locations. The tree will start growing and will grow during any season. All trees will go through four growth stages before they reach full maturity; during the seed and sapling stages, a tree can be pulled out of the ground and replanted by holding the pick up button. For the tree to fully mature, its eight surrounding squares have to be kept empty of other trees; if a tree seed or a sapling is planted close to another tree, it will not grow past the sapling stage.
Most trees will change seasonally, changing their leaf color or losing their leaves completely during winter. However, even during winter, the trees will continue to grow and produce sap.
Uses
Trees can be cut for Wood or tapped for sap.
Logging
Trees can be cut with an axe on any of their growth stages. Most trees drop Wood when cut, with fully mature trees having a 50% chance to drop a seed as well.
Bobby and Fern Trees have slightly more health and drop slightly more wood than all other trees.
